7 Bible Verses on Fear to Gain Victory in Your Life
We all have times when we feel fearful.
Whether it’s stepping out to do something new or facing something daunting, we will feel fear at some point.
I believe that’s why God gave us so many bible verses on “fear not”.
Although fear is a feeling, it’s also a spirit.
Why is that important to know?
Because when you know what you’re up against, you know how to battle.
So often I’ve tried to fight fear in the flesh.
In the midst of an attack, I tended to be overly focused on getting rid of the anxious feelings rather than battling the fear itself.
I knew if I wanted to succeed in battling fear, I’d have to develop a plan that fought the spirit and not just the feelings.
This realization changed my battle plan!
One of the ways we can battle fear in the spirit is through declaring God’s promises. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). When we hear God’s words coming out of our own mouths we are claiming them as our own and convincing ourselves to believe what we are speaking.
7 Bible Verses on Fear to Gain Victory in Your Life
God has not given us a spirit of fear
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
When fear begins to rise up, this is one of my go-to scriptures.
Because God has not given me a spirit of fear, I’m declaring it can’t consume me!
He has given me a spirit of power, love and a sound mind.
What power do I have? The power that raised Jesus from the dead is in me, giving me victory over anything that comes against me.
Whose love do I have? His perfect love that casts out every fear.
Why is my mind sound? I’ve been given the mind of Christ, which is in perfect peace.
These are the promises I’m declaring when I claim this verse during times of fear.
You may have to repeat it multiple times a day, but that’s ok! The more you speak it, the more you’ll believe it!
God is with us
The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortal do to me? The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. Psalm 118:6-7
God is always with us.
Even when we feel alone, He is there.
Our feelings don’t change who God is.
He is faithful and promises to never leave us or forsake us.
Knowing this allows us to look in triumph on our enemies.
Whether it’s fear, depression, worry, addiction; whatever it is, we can see ourselves as victorious because God is with us!
God is our Deliverer
Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, and do not fear, for your God is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you.” Isaiah 35:4
Whatever we’re facing, God can handle.
He is bigger than our fears, our circumstances and anyone or anything that comes against us.
We can boldly declare Him as our Deliverer. This is a verse you can personalize and declare for yourself.
God is our strength
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
When fear convinces us that we aren’t strong enough to handle whatever comes our way, we can be confident in the Lord.
It is by His strength that we are saved.
He holds us up in His hand, keeping us safe from whatever seeks to destroy us.
This is one that I memorized and declared over myself frequently.
God is our Father
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15
Through the sacrifice of God’s Son and our acceptance of Him, we are adopted into God’s family.
We are His children.
We are set free from the bondage of fear. When we feel fearful, we can cry out to Him and He will answer us.
God is our Refuge
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
What is a refuge?
It is a place of shelter from storms or danger and a place of hope.
When we are in trouble, we can run to Him and He will protect us.
God is our Defender
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14
Many times I want to fight on my own behalf when I feel threatened.
God has given me this promise countless times during times of crisis….especially when it pertains to relationships.
Be still.
It’s the last thing I want to do when I feel like I’m being taken advantage of or attacked by someone.
I want to defend myself and clear my name.
Because this fear can be subtle (fear of manipulation or being taken advantage of) we don’t often see it coming.
Yet God promises that if we will only be still, He will fight for us.
How can we be still? Holding our tongue, prayer, and seeking Him as our mouthpiece….these are a few I’ve been practicing!
All of these promises are ours in Christ. When God gives us a promise He is faithful to follow through.
It may be helpful to write these down on scripture cards and keep them close by until you memorize them.
I did that for years!
I still have some around my house on mirrors. When we surround ourselves with the Word, we are preparing ourselves to fight in the spirit.
Have you been fighting fear in the flesh or the spirit? Beginning to claim these promises is the start to a new battle plan to eradicate fear in our lives. As we speak these Bible verses on fear, we can be sure God is acting on our behalf.
Great reminders! I’ve been struggling with a lot of fear and anxiety today and these were very helpful. Thank you!
I’m so glad these were helpful for you, Ashley! Thanks for stopping by today!
Love the idea that God is our defender!
Me too, Michelle! There is such comfort in knowing He has our back!
This is beautiful Alisa and I always am encouraged by your writing! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Lil!
Love your Scriptures on fear! I know so many women struggle with this including myself!
Thank you, Naomi! I had been astonished by the amount of people who struggle with fear. I guess that’s why God has given us so many scriptures that cover it!
I deal with anxiety every day and I absolutely relate to what you said about dealing with the anxiety in the moment and just wanting to get it to go away. Great article!!
Thanks, Diane! I have found that having a plan really helps with that. When we feel anxious we naturally want it to go away, but how we make it go away makes a huge difference! Confessing Gods Word and declaring His promises are a few of the “autoresponses” I’ve used to make it go away!
Thanks, alisa! Im about to go speak all weekend again I don’t fear as much as earlier yet I do fear I won’t go in God’s strength and power – so I can only pray and submit and keep going. PLus I have 12 women who pray alongside as I go – and i’ll read your post again. (:
I so appreciate when I am reminded of God’s promises. When I afraid or feeling uncertain, I love it when my friends remind me of how good God is! Thanks
How blessed are we to be able to hold the scriptures–readi them, memorize them, be comforted by them. Can’t imagine living in an area where the Bible was illegal. Thanks for sharing these sweet reminders of His provision, protection and grace, Alisia. ((Hug))
Thanks, Brenda! I completely agree. I can’t imagine not having God’s Word to turn to. Although many scriptures are tucked in my heart, it’s always nice to pull out the Bible and let the Words soak in.
Hello Alisa, I am so thankful to have found your website. Fear is a tormenting spirit that has been holding me captive in my mind. Thank you for pointing out the scriptures on fear. I am going through a few things at home and work and this is just what I need to lift my faith that God watches over his word and his promises are true. I need only to profess his word, calm down and believe.
Such a timely post- well done!
Powerful scriptures here friend. Pinned to share with our community. Stopping by from By His Grace Bloggers.
Love these verses and how you pulled out the key to every one of these—God and how He is for us when we battle fear! Thanks Alisa!
What a timely reminder and encouraging resource. Thank you, Alisa!
Blessings always.
Wonderful post, Alisa! The 2 Timothy verse is one I’ve been soaking in for a while now. Good, good truth.
I’m so grateful for this teaching on fear. My 12 year old grand daughter (does not live in a christian home) attended VBS with me Fri and Sat night. She was to spend the night with me but shortly after coming home, she began crying…. She’d become afraid recently after hearing about kidnapping and killing, had had two bad dreams about it and was afraid to stay at my house. (She’d even been afraid to stay at her dad’s, my son but had stayed.)
She had her mom come get her.
She has always been confident, bold and unafraid. To see her like this was hard; logic did not help. I talked to her about trusting the Lord to take care of her. I said I could print off some Scriptures for her to say out loud until the fear goes away, that it always worked for me and would for her.
She picked out the verses and parts you wrote that spoke to her and I sent them home with her.
As we read through them, she settled down and was much brighter after that. She still went home but she took the Scriptures with her.
Thank you so much, that the Lord led me to your site, for I looked at several before I found yours!
