4 Scriptures for Encouragement When You’re Having a Bad Day
We all have those days when we need a little encouragement.
Whether we wake up in a bad mood or things turn south soon after, there are times when we just need a little spiritual pick me up.
Recently I had to temporarily take on a bigger role at work. In addition to my job of overseeing Admin and Accounting, I was now doing scheduling and handling day to day activities for multiple people. When combined with my other roles of homeschool mom, cook, chauffeur and blogger, small details began being overlooked.
Now you have to understand….I’m a recovering perfectionist. So making minor mistakes feels like massive disasters.
Each oversite seemed to scream FAILURE, INCAPABLE, and UNRELIABLE.
By the end of the first day, I was desperate for some encouragement.
In times like these, I know where to go….
Here are 4 Scriptures for Encouragement:
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2 NIV
God is always with us
No matter what we are going through, we can be confident that God is always with us. This scripture reminds us that not only is He with us, but He is protecting us.
We may walk through fire, but we will not be consumed.
It may feel overwhelming when a relationship turns bad, finances are dwindling or when we don’t feel capable at work. But as we hang onto this promise, we can be sure we will come out stronger.
What situation do you need God to show up for today?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT
God is our Guide
When I get in difficult scenarios, I tend to overanalyze.
I can spend hours and even days meditating on the possible outcomes of any given situation.
This is exactly what I did a few weeks ago. I frantically tried to figure out how/ why I made the mistakes. Going through that process usually results in me becoming more frustrated and exhausted.
This time was no different.
However, when I chose to turn it over to God, I found rest. He always calms my mind from the clutter and gives me clear direction on what to let go of and how to proceed.
What do you need to seek guidance for today?
You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3 NLT
God is our Peace
Whether it’s finances, family or making mistakes at work, we can become overwhelmed by all of the pressures of the day.
But as daughters of the Most High, we don’t have to fear or worry. Jesus has promised us peace.
We can come before Him and lay down every concern at His feet. And as we seek Him and focus on who He is, we will find the peace that surpasses all understanding.
What worry do you need to lay at the feet of Jesus today?
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV
God works on our behalf

Several years ago, we found out our house had mold. Immediately my mind began to worry.
Not just about health issues that could arise, but how we would remediate and if our insurance would cover it.
As I prayed and sought God, He reminded me of this scripture. He hand selected it for me that day to hold onto in times where it seemed He was silent.
Anytime I would begin to fear, I would speak Romans 8:28 out loud.
In the end, our insurance company did cover every bit of the damage. And what’s more, they covered the cost of a rental house until it was finished….3 years later!
What do you need to believe God for today?
Do you need some scriptures for encouragement today? The Bible is full of powerful scriptures for encouragement to help us through our rough days. I’ve included some scripture cards of my favorite encouraging verses for you. They are small enough to fit in your purse, making them available to pull out just when you need them. I pray that as you meditate on them and confess them, that God would give you peace and rest in Him.
Beautiful, as usual, Alisa!
Can I just tell you how badly I needed to read this today! Ugh. One of those days that brought me to my knees in repentance for my disgusting, poor behavior!
I’m so grateful for God’s grace, because my attitude today sure was not deserving of it. But I guess that’s what grace is after all- unmerited.
Thank you for these prayer reminders!
These are amazing verses. Romans 8:28 isn’t one of my favorites. Thanks so much for sharing this encouragement. #blessingbloggers
So good! I am also a (recovering?) perfectionist. And yes, every small mistake feels gigantic. I love this “when I chose to turn it over to God.” It’s so hard to turn it over sometimes but I also find that when I do he always is quick to bring “peace beyond understanding.” Thank you, Alisa!
