3 Scriptures & Prayers for Finding Rest
Rest.
Countless times in the past few days this word has grabbed my attention. Whether it be in articles, scriptures or God whispering it in my ear, the word rest has been pulling at me.
Summer seems to be the optimal time to relax a bit, yet I’m experiencing quite the opposite. Things are vying for my attention and I’m finding it hard to slow down and take a time out–not just in my body, but in my mind as well. As I communed with God this morning, I was encouraged by several scriptures on finding rest. As I read them, I claimed them as His promises and prayed them over my life. Perhaps they will encourage you as well!
3 Scriptures & Prayers for Finding Rest
Find rest, o my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 62:5-6
Thank you, Lord, that you give rest to my soul. No matter the deadlines, the circumstances I face, or the obligations I have I can find complete peace in the midst of them. You are my Source. You are my Rock, my Salvation, and my Refuge. I trust in you to provide for me, Jehovah Jireh. I rest in you today, knowing You are faithful. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all ofyou who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
Lord, thank you that I can come to you when I’m worn out and overburdened. I lay all my worries and frustrations at Your feet, refusing to pick them back up. When it seems nothing is changing, I choose to believe that You are at work on my behalf. I rest in Your love and Your ability to take care of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Father, thank you that You are always with me. Sustain me as I go about my day. Teach me to be aware of Your Presence in all that I do. Help me to see Your hand working in every area of my life. When I feel stretched or uncomfortable, remind me that You are holding my hand. You never leave me or forsake me. Although the world may abandon me or reject me, You never will. Continue to help me realize how deep, how far, and how wide Your love for me is. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Rather than waiting for our schedules to slow down so we can feel rested, perhaps it’s time for us to find rest. As we seek the Lord and search His word, we will find rest in His promises for us.
Thank you, Alisa. I needed your post and especially the scripture verses and accompanying prayers in this moment. Thanks also for the free scriptures & prayer cards. Blessings. Visiting from FMF.
I’m so glad they encouraged you! I love a timely word from the Lord. Thank you for visiting. Have a great weekend!
Thanks Alisa – I love these- esp. Ps. 62 – our pastor spoke on rest this past sunday and yes, summer can be the opposite. bless us both as we “fit it in” to the Glory of God!
So very true! Summers can be busy! The lack of schedule makes me feel unrested many days. But I’m praising God for the time with the kids. They won’t stay small long!
Hey Alisa, I think Matt 11:28 is my go-to verse when I need to shed some burdens I’ve been hauling around. Just reading it helps me give it all to my Savior. Thank you for these great verses!
I love that verse, Lisa! I agree- giving it over to God takes the burden off of me and let it rest in Him. Have a great week!
It’s so true that we need to seek and find rest. Thank you for the encouragement!
Absolutely, Valerie! Thanks for stopping by!
Alisa – I couldn’t agree with you more – it is definitely time for us to go and find rest instead of waiting for our schedules to slow down – I can always stay busy — but must be intentional about finding rest – I love the Scriptures you chose as well. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement to seek rest. It is so very important – Your neighbor today at #womenwithintention
Love this! Praying God’s Word is so powerful!
Hello Alisa! I just finished reading another post about resting and retreating- I’m sure that coupled with an insane desire to get away with Jesus means that’s definitely the choice I need to be making! Thank you for the timely scriptures and the urge to slow down before God slows us down maybe it a way we may not wish for ♥ Happy to be your neighbor at Imparting Grace today!
I totally need some get away with Jesus time, Heather! I love that you mentioned that. Thanks for reading stopping by today!
I am horrible at seeking rest. Even when I do and then have the opportunity to rest, I don’t because I have this cloud of guilt hanging over me for not accomplishing the other 7952 things on my to-do list! Alisa, I love these scripture images. Gorgeous! I’m inspired to shake the guilt and get busy resting.
Blessings and smiles,
Lori
OH, me too Lori!! I’m the queen of go, go, go! I’m always considering if what I’m doing is a waste of time and rest often feels like that! But, I know that it’s necessary. The great thing though is that reading is one way for me to rest and that also feels productive. =) Thanks for reading today. Have a great weekend!
My 2016 Word of the year is Rest, so thank you for this post.
This especially spoke to me: “When I feel stretched or uncomfortable, remind me that You are holding my hand.” I’m not going through the uncomfortable times alone!
That’s a great word of the year, Jerralea! God has been speaking to me about rest lately too! You are definitely not alone in your journey! Have a great week.
I love Exodus 33:14 — Having God’s presence in our lives is a wonderful thing! He goes before us in everything we do. I continue to learn to rest in the Lord! To slow down and be filled with him. Thank you for your words today, they spoke to my heart. Blessings to you!
I think we all have to continue to learn to rest in the Lord, Tammy! It seems I rest and then I try to do more. When I get exhausted, I remember I’m supposed to rest and the cycle continues! Thank you for visiting! Have a great week.
Love this, Alisa! Shared it with my online prayer group today. Thanks xo
