3 Scriptures & Prayers for Finding Rest
Rest.
Countless times in the past few days this word has grabbed my attention. Whether it be in articles, scriptures or God whispering it in my ear, the word rest has been pulling at me.
Summer seems to be the optimal time to relax a bit, yet I’m experiencing quite the opposite. Things are vying for my attention and I’m finding it hard to slow down and take a time out–not just in my body, but in my mind as well. As I communed with God this morning, I was encouraged by several scriptures on finding rest. As I read them, I claimed them as His promises and prayed them over my life. Perhaps they will encourage you as well!
3 Scriptures & Prayers for Finding Rest
Find rest, o my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 62:5-6
Thank you, Lord, that you give rest to my soul. No matter the deadlines, the circumstances I face, or the obligations I have I can find complete peace in the midst of them. You are my Source. You are my Rock, my Salvation, and my Refuge. I trust in you to provide for me, Jehovah Jireh. I rest in you today, knowing You are faithful. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all ofyou who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
Lord, thank you that I can come to you when I’m worn out and overburdened. I lay all my worries and frustrations at Your feet, refusing to pick them back up. When it seems nothing is changing, I choose to believe that You are at work on my behalf. I rest in Your love and Your ability to take care of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Father, thank you that You are always with me. Sustain me as I go about my day. Teach me to be aware of Your Presence in all that I do. Help me to see Your hand working in every area of my life. When I feel stretched or uncomfortable, remind me that You are holding my hand. You never leave me or forsake me. Although the world may abandon me or reject me, You never will. Continue to help me realize how deep, how far, and how wide Your love for me is. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Rather than waiting for our schedules to slow down so we can feel rested, perhaps it’s time for us to find rest. As we seek the Lord and search His word, we will find rest in His promises for us.
