Do you live out love in your home?

I’m not always the most intentional person when it comes to showing love to my family.

Not that I don’t show them love.

When I see them, I’ll give them a hug, a kiss…ask them how their day was.

But as far as being intentional about how to show them love, well that is where I’m lacking.

However, this week I heard something that literally brought tears to my eyes and got me motivated to start being intentional about showing love to my people.

I was sitting in small group when some ladies began talking about the HEART challenge.
Intrigued by their conversation, I sat intently listening to what this could be about.

One lady began explaining how she made cut out hearts for each person in her family. On the cards she wrote encouraging notes and left them all over the house.

She put them on their mirrors in their bathroom. In their lunchboxes to take to school. On the dressers where they got their clothes out. Even on the refrigerator where they’d go to find a snack.

By the end of the conversation, I knew this was something I wanted to do for my own family. However, the next part of her story was what got me….

She said she woke up the next morning and her son came in to thank her for the hearts she had placed in his lunchbox. The only problem…..she hadn’t put them there.

Her girls had been receiving these hearts and watching her share them with the entire family…..so they decided to spread the love and do it as well. They stayed up late in their rooms making hearts to give to each of the other family members.

My heart melted.

I want this for my kids. I want them to begin to LIVE out LOVE to their siblings.

Because I know once they begin to do that, it will spread….to friends, to neighbors and beyond.

It’s the heart of Jesus to GIVE and to LOVE.

This Valentines Day, I want to live out love.

But even more than that, I want to share the love I receive from Jesus every day to those around me….starting right at home.

The more I thought about how I could encourage and show love to people, the more I began to consider what that would look like.

For Valentine’s Day I decided to borrow the idea from my friend at small group.

Maybe you’d like to do the same?

Just in case you said yes, I made you a little something….

Below you’ll find an attachment of some heart cut outs with encouraging words on it for your family. (I left 2 blank so you could write your own if you wanted!) These would even be great to attach to a Valentine’s Day gift… Feel free to use them and share them with others!

But then I thought…what about when Valentine’s Day is over?

I still want to show love to my friends and family even after the holiday.

So I had an idea….

I could write encouraging personalized scriptures on little circular or square notecards.

I would sneak them into places that I knew they would find them to encourage them and let them know I was thinking about them.

Here are a few personalized scriptures that can be added to the notecards:

You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you! Philippians 4:13

Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed. Deuteronomy 28:6

The Lord will make you the head (leader) and not the tail (follower); and you will be above only, and you will not be beneath. Deuteronomy 28:13

You are the apple of God’s eye. Zechariah 2:8

God has chosen you as His own special treasure. Psalm 135:4

You are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ, ready to be used for good works. Ephesians 2:10

I made a few to test it out and thought I’d share them with you!

  1. I loved this story and the note cards too. I put little notes in my girls’ lunchboxes from time to time, but I need to be more consistent with it and encourage them to do the same for each other.
