Why Jesus is the Rock that Never Leaves Me

Share with your friends!

Lonely. Hopeless. Worn. Hurting. Empty.

These are emotions I wrestle with…in spite of being a disciple of Jesus.

Yet how do we fight back against these emotions that seek to overwhelm us?

“The steadfast of mind You will keep in perfect peace, Because he trusts in You. “Trust in the Lord forever, For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.” Isaiah 26: 3-4 (NASB)

Fix our mind on Jesus, who is our everlasting Rock.

What does that mean “Our everlasting Rock”?

Let’s take a trip back in time – somewhere between the 13th and 15th century B.C. Imagine you are among the multitudes of Israelites who have just experienced miraculous proof of God’s love and pursuit of them.

You’ve seen frogs and gnats beyond numbering, insane weather, and water turned to blood everywhere but in your home.

What might you feel as you begin walking through a wilderness to an unknown land?

Fear. Exhaustion. Wonder. Confusion. Homesickness.

There must have been so many emotions.

Jesus the Rock answered their fear.

In the lead of this troupe of emotional Israelites are a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.

The pillar never left them.

Never.

We know the Pillar is a representation of Jesus.

He protected them -in ways they never imagined.

Then there was the issue of food and water. How would they survive this exhausting -40 year-long -hike through the wilderness?

Jesus the Rock provided for them.

Can you imagine the awe of fresh angel bread every morning? That one blows my mind still. But greater than God’s provision for food is Jesus -the living water – pouring Himself out for them.

Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. Exodus 17:6 (NASB)

Can you imagine drinking Living Water in the Wilderness?

I don’t know what season of life you are in, but I am exhausted in mine. I often feel empty, tired, lonely, and hopeless.

Then I remember that I have access to that same Living Water. The water of Jesus -living in me- a prayer away.

Friends, we can call on Jesus as our Rock and embrace all that means for us daily!

  1. Jesus is always with us -We are never alone.
  2. Times of refreshing/ refilling our emptiness can be daily (even moment by moment)!
  3. He protects us from a very real enemy -who wears us out with lies – if we will call out to Him.
  4. Clear direction is ours for the asking! We need never feel Hopeless!

With Jesus as our Rock, we do not have to repeat the mistakes of the Israelites!

For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; & the rock was Christ. Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. 1 Corinthians 10: 1-5

  • They saw all the miracles
  • Tasted the living water
  • Felt the protection and provision of Jesus our Rock.

Yet they fell away.

Somehow they didn’t understand, or maybe they were distracted by the lies of the enemy… the overwhelming flood of emotions he continually stirred up.

Jesus as our Rock is how we fight back!

Let’s not be unaware of the enemy’s plans to keep us overwhelmed in emotions. Instead, let’s admit his plan has worked in the past and stand firm on the Rock!

We can start again – today is a new day!

Today I choose to Stand on the Rock of Ages that Never leaves me.

The Cornerstone that holds everything together – can hold me together.

Jesus the Rock from which flows Living Water – can re-fill this war-torn life.

He is just a Prayer away, just a scripture away. Let’s turn to our Rock as the enemy begins to whisper his lies.
In HIM,
Tiffany
