So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, Acts 2:46 NKJV

Nothing makes a party or gathering more enjoyable than a delicious meal.

Particularly those in South Louisiana.

It seems all of our get togethers revolve around eating. We’ve even had bible studies with whole meals served.

We love to eat!

However, Thanksgiving and Christmas are when the best meals are served. It’s something to look forward to in the Nicaud family. From my husband’s amazing jambalaya to my brother in law’s perfectly cooked brisket and my sister in law’s tasty sweet potato crunch….it’s quite the spread. As incredible as these feasts are, the real “breaking bread” moment happens in the fellowship.

The Joy of Breaking Bread

It has been such a blessing to watch all my children playing with their cousins. The girls would sing, danced and play outside, while the boys, who are older, would hang out with Uncle Shane and talk about growing up and the importance of family.

These are the moments my kids will remember for the rest of their lives.

There is a blessing that comes from breaking bread together. David says in Psalm 133 that when we come together in unity, that’s where the blessing of The Lord remains.

The Christmas season gives us many occasions to fellowship with family and friends. What if we could hang out and eat our food “with gladness and simplicity of heart” just as Paul mentioned?

There doesn’t have to be any expectations of each other, we can just enjoy the company.

I know some of you may be thinking that this doesn’t seem like a possibility for your family. I’m not saying every time we get together with family it’s perfect either….I’m not even saying it’s close to it. But as we lay aside our differences, embrace each other’s uniqueness, there is an opportunity for us to enjoy a peaceful, pleasant Christmas this year.

Practical Tips for Breaking Bread Together:

Buying Meals– As Christmas Day approaches, our schedules begin to get tighter. That being said, I wanted to share with you some options for buying meals. Fresh Market is a wonderful option for those looking for some quick meals that are already prepared. You can see the options on their website at www.thefreshmarket.com.

Preparing Our Hearts: For some of you, the Christmas season is a time of joy and excitement. For others of you, who may be struggling with family members, I encourage you to keep your heart open to what God wants to do in and through you. Be open to stepping out of your comfort zone and be willing to make the first move if God leads you to do so.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the opportunity to fellowship with family and friends this Christmas. We come together for a purpose… to celebrate You. Father I pray for healing in relationships and mending of hearts this Christmas. As we lay aside all our differences, God I pray that you would show up and do the impossible. We love you and praise you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wow, do I ever relate with your sentiments “keep you heart open to what God wants to do in you, and through you.” That was for my heart today.
