Depositing Seeds of Gentleness
Rather, beauty is something internal that can’t be destroyed. Beauty expresses itself in a gentle and quiet attitude which God considers precious. 1 Peter 3:4 GWT
One of the things that blesses my husband’s soul is coming home to a peaceful environment.
After being at work all day, surrounded by pressures and busyness, a calm welcome helps him to unwind. When beginning this series I stated that as women, we have been given a great privilege to set the atmosphere in our homes. One of the ways we can do this is through the way we interact with others.

It pours out of her like a fragrance and permeates the entire room.
Everyone notices.
So how do we get this gentle and quiet attitude?
Gentleness is a fruit of the Spirit; therefore, spending time with God deposits seeds of gentleness in us. As we interact with others daily, we are presented with opportunities to respond in a gentle fashion. When we choose to do this, it activates the seeds deposited and they begin to grow and develop. We will see the evidence of gentleness in our lives.
With the many roles I have played, mother, wife, businesswoman, homemaker, etc., I understand that gentleness is not something that comes natural. In fact, one dictionary defines gentleness as intentional mildness, suggesting that we must do it on purpose. In the midst of juggling all of my responsibilities, I have to intentionally choose to be gentle to those around me. It’s easy to just respond out of emotion, but to respond with gentleness I must have self control. By choosing to do this, we set the environment for peace in our homes.
Practical Tips for Depositing Seeds of Gentleness:
Observe Gentleness:
Through the Word– Jesus is our ultimate example for gentleness. As we observe the way He responds in situations, we will learn how to apply it in our own lives.
Through others– My friend Blanche is a picture of gentleness. Her kind and gracious actions towards others, inspire me. I love being around her!
Determine to Act in Gentleness– Think about who you will be seeing this Christmas. Anticipating how you will respond to those people will help you to interact with them in a gentle manner.
Prayer
Lord, we thank you for being our example. help us to be more gentle and kind as we engage with others this Christmas season. Help us to be more like you. In Your name we pray – Amen.
