How to Embrace Change in a New Season of Life

Share with your friends!

A new season is here.

Well at least in Louisiana.

We are officially experiencing winter! With temps as low as 5* and snow covering our once green lawns, we are finally getting to enjoy what the majority of the country sees and feels in winter.

The fun is just beginning.

Unlike the weather changes, new seasons of life aren’t always enjoyable. Sometimes the changes in life can create a feeling of insecurity.

An uneasiness with the unknown of what it will look like.

I have a LOT of new things coming up and as excited as I am, I’m also a little nervous.

Change in Family

This next school year my oldest will be moving out and my second son will be a senior in high school.

Both BIG changes for me.

My momma heart wants to hold onto my kids forever, but I know I have to let them grow up.

Saying that I’ll let go is so much easier than actually doing it!

Change in Blogging

A few months ago I felt God leading me to become more involved in our family business. It has been a very hard decision for me because I LOVE blogging so much and I assumed it meant I had to cut back.

After praying about it, I realized that I didn’t have to give up blogging, I just had to think outside the box.

My original vision for Flourishing Today was for it to be a platform for women to share their stories. While praying through my recent changes, God reminded me of this vision.

So……

Beginning this month I will have regular contributors that will be sharing on the Flourishing Today blog. I am so excited to share these amazing women with you in the next few weeks.

Not only will they be helping me carry the load of the blog, but they will have encouraging and uplifting words to help you to grow in faith, overcome in life and walk in purpose.

The Last Change: The Salt & Light Linkup

Natalie, Carmen and I have loved hosting the Salt & Light linkup these past 9 months. While none of us wanted to give it up, we all have a lot on our plates. While praying on how to proceed, an idea emerged that I feel is an awesome one! Rather than host the linkup on our sites each week, we will begin hosting them in a Facebook Group.

With all the changes taking place on FB, we all felt this would be a fantastic way to be able to share each other’s posts and provide a sense of community as well.

We will each share the link to the new group next Thursday on our blogs, where you will be able to share your post in the first FB linkup. We’ll still have features each week, but rather than choosing one, we will each choose five!

I can’t tell you how excited we are about this change. We’ll explain more about how it works next week! =)

Dealing with the Changes

With all these amazing things going on, I can feel a bit incapable….unprepared for the busyness, the newness, and the change in schedules.

As I look forward into this next season I decided that it’s time to embrace it, rather than dread it.

God has always provided and this time is no different.

What He calls me to, He will get me through.

Here are a few things I’m reminded of as I embark on this new season.

Are you going through a new season in life? Life changes can be difficult if we don't know how to navigate them. Here are some tips on how to embrace change in a new season of life. #change #seasons

How to Embrace Change in a New Season in Life

Rely on God

Most of the time when I feel overwhelmed, it’s because I think that I’m in this thing alone.

I forget that the One who controls all things, the Creator of the Universe, will never leave me or forsake me.

These new seasons in life cause me to draw closer to Him and rely on Him in the midst of the hard.

When I’m missing having my son at home, He’ll be my comforter.

If I feel overwhelmed by my new position, He will be my Source.

I’m never alone, even if I feel like I am.

Expect Good Things

Therefore the Lord waits [expectantly] and longs to be gracious to you,
And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
Blessed (happy, fortunate) are all those who long for Him [since He will never fail them].

Isaiah 30:18 AMP

When I enter into a new season, sometimes I can go in looking at the negatives. The what if’s can plague my mind, stirring up anxiety and fear.

But that is not from God.

He longs to do good for us. He wants us to expect great things from Him. His plan is to prosper us and not to harm us all the days of our lives.

When we focus on the negative possibilities of a new season, our minds are not in alignment with God’s Word.

In this new season of change, I’m choosing to focus on the amazing things that God is going to bring forth as I follow His lead.

Take one day at a time

This is a biggie for me.

I can get overwhelmed by the big picture.

I’m a detailed person, so when I see big changes, I can get caught up in processing through every-little-thing.

One thing I’m learning is to take one day at a time.

Yes, I need to think about the future, but that can’t be my main focus.

Each day God gives us grace….our daily bread. Not our yearly bread or even our weekly bread.

As we take in His grace for each day, we will experience peace and make our transition into the new season a much smoother one!

What about you?

Are you going through a life change? How are you navigating through? I’d love for you to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Friend, one thing I am sure of in the new seasons we face….God is with us! With Him by our side and guiding us through, there’s nothing we can’t get through!

  1. Congratulations on all the new changes in your life. I am so glad you are embracing them. I can’t wait to see your store. My youngest just graduated college. Funny I wasn’t ready, but I expect the next phase to be good too. Especially because I will not be alone and God will be with me.

    Change… the constant in life!!!!

  3. YES! I’m all about expecting good things in the midst of change. It doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Love your practical reminders here and congrats on your store!

  4. Rely on God, Expect good things, take one day at a time. Those are precious lessons, Alisa. May God give you grace as your son goes to college. I’m looking at my first summer (my son’s sophomore year just ended) without my guy at home, so I can relate. Blessings on your new shop!

  5. Congratulations on the changes and the upcoming growth that will accompany them! I can get overwhelmed with change as well. I think about all the steps required and can feel bogged down if I don’t stay focused on God’s promises. 2018 is going to come with quite a few changes for me, too. I feel God leading me to leave my current therapy organization and go into private practice. (Whew! That’s the first time I’ve written that. And it’s scary!) My blog is also still less than six months old so there are big projects in the works and on the horizon that God is showing me to look forward to. It’s going to be a big year of stepping out in faith!

  6. Wow, you do have a lot of changes coming! And my college guy just went back to school this week, so I’m feeling your pain.

Looking forward to more details on the FB page, etc.!

  7. Wow, lots of changes. I am sending prayers for you as I type this out. Thank you for your link-up. I am so glad I have had the opportunity to be a part of it over the last few months. I look forward to continuing over on facebook. Wishing you the best! Maree
