Reason for the Season: Grace
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:16 NIV
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV
For 4 years I homeschooled my children. When someone would find out this information they would immediately reply, “How do you do it? I could never do that!” The only answer I had for them was this, “It is the grace of God.” Even now as we decided to homeschool all 5 again this year, I think, Surely it isn’t my own strength that carries me through each day. I’m simply not that capable. Quite honestly, I’ve really never been the homeschooling “type”. Yet the Lord always equips us and gives us the grace to do what He asks us to do. When I first began this adventure, I had a lot on my plate. In addition to homeschooling, I was directing a homeschool campus, managing our personal and business finances, trying to keep the house clean, cooking, leading a small group and trying to develop relationships outside my family. Whew! I felt like a juggler in a circus act. Only the grace of God can allow a person to steward over that much responsibility.
This Christmas, God wants to pour out His grace on all of us. He wants us to come to Him expecting to receive His grace, His unmerited favor and love that Jesus died to give us. Whatever your needs are, whether it’s finances, peace, restoration in a relationship, the grace of God is sufficient to supply it. He freely gives it to His people. All we have to do is ask and we shall receive.
Practical Tips:
What are tasks that you feel incapable of performing in these three areas?
Family– In an attempt to spend time with my girls, we decided to make cookies for the cookie tree again. As we began rolling and cutting, I found myself getting frustrated with them as they all tried to do their cookies at once. I need the grace of God, in order to guide my girls in group activities.
Work– My work is in my home. So, the one thing I feel incapable of completing is…… Laundry. When all the clothes have been washed and put away, it never fails that I will walk into the laundry room to find more clothes. I’m having a hard time keeping up! I need the grace of God to help me keep up with laundry.
Community– We desperately want to do backpacks for the homeless this year. With all the activities going on, time has slipped by us. We need the grace of God to be able to accomplish this goal.
Prayer
Lord, we come to you today praising you. We thank you that your grace is sufficient for all things. God we ask today that you give us the grace to do all the things that need to get done. Fill us afresh with your Holy Spirit. We receive your peace and favor for today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
